The Little Stranger

The Little Stranger

Sarah Waters

I had seen Waters name passed around in hushed reverent terms. Now I see why. This epic book is a slow burner. One that I just could not stop thinking about. It's the kind of book that sneaks into your subconscious and won't get out even after the last page. Set just after the war in England the characters are all damaged and yet endearing. Our narrator, Dr. Faraday, knows how this will all end up but he tells the story as would any good physician- slowly and in order. Which leads to this particular reader to yell when he sometimes reveals he knows what's next but won't tell us. A really compelling and sometimes somber mystery.
